Barry Fitzgerald | Artist's Statement 

 

My work is driven by the need to discover. It often begins in my sketchbooks, where conscious and subconscious ideas begin to take form. Select compositions and concepts are developed while exploring the application of design fundamentals. Texture/pattern and line/shape relationships, as well as media application methods have been my current pursuits.

 

At times, the image requires a specific message and the pursuit is in resolving different way to express it. Other times, the image directs the conversation, and discovery of the meaning follows. 

 

My investigation of a personal visual vocabulary has led me to address paintings as objects. Not limiting them to being just an image opens up possibilities. Ultimately, the opportunities within the combinations of visual language and image-making methodologies compose a fertile playground to explore.
